Manulife Philippines Receives ASEAN Corporate Governance Golden Arrow Award
For the fourth consecutive year, leading global life insurer Manulife is one of the recipients of the ASEAN Corporate Governance (ACGS) Golden Arrow Awards by The Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), a non-profit organization dedicated to the professionalization of corporate directorship. The award recognized Manulife’s commitment in ensuring balance and transparency in catering to its stakeholders’ needs and interests, as reflected in their 2019 ACGS Scorecard.
“We at Manulife Philippines remain committed to upholding good corporate stewardship through sound and responsible corporate governance practices,” Richard Bates, Manulife Philippines’ President and Chief Executive Officer, said. “We sincerely thank the ICD for this honor, which will surely inspire all of us at Manulife to better support the needs of our stakeholders, customers, and the communities we serve.”
The ACGS assesses companies using the criteria set by the Principles of Corporate Governance developed and endorsed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), an international organization composed of 37 countries that assess each other’s policy performances. The criteria adhere to the following key corporate governance principles: Rights and Equitable Treatment of Shareholders, Role of Stakeholders, Disclosure and Transparency, and the Responsibilities of the Board.
The ACGS Golden Arrow Awards is an initiative of the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF) geared towards raising corporate governance standards and best practices among ASEAN publicly-listed companies. It ranks companies in six participating countries―Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
