RCBC strengthens overseas reach through partnership with Digital Wallet

The Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) has strengthened its global remittance network through a strategic partnership with Digital Wallet Corporation, the operator of Japan’s top mobile remittance service, Smiles Mobile Remittance.

RCBC has successfully onboarded three new remittance corridors for Digital Wallet, covering the United States, Canada, and Singapore.

Martin Tirol, head of RCBC’s Transaction Banking Group, said that collaboration aims to provide faster, secure, and accessible money transfer services to overseas Filipinos and their families in the Philippines.

“By deepening our collaboration with partners like Digital Wallet, we are giving overseas Filipinos more tools to build a better future for their loved ones,” Tirol added.

Digital Wallet, through Smiles Mobile Remittance, holds a leading position in Japan’s overseas remittance market. This was reinforced with its acquisition of Seven Global Remit, Ltd. in 2024 thus expanding its reach through access to the Seven Bank ATM network, one of the country’s largest financial infrastructures.

In addition to expanding corridors, RCBC is also rolling out initiatives to increase the number of RCBC account holders overseas by addressing the financial literacy needs of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) community. These programs are part of RCBC’s broader commitment to empower Filipinos globally by promoting financial inclusion and responsible money management.

Recently, the bank also partnered with other recognized digital remittances companies, including Visa (Global), GMoneyTrans (Korea), and Taptap Send (Global). It currently maintains more than 20,000 domestic payout touchpoints.
