Tanduay Adds Barrel-Aged Scottish Legacy Whisky to Its Portfolio
Starting this April, Tanduay will make Scottish Legacy Blended Scotch Whisky available in the Philippines. This is after the company signed an agreement with Quality Spirits International, the manufacturers of the only spirit that has been distilled and matured in oak barrels in Scotland.
“Importing Scottish Legacy is still in line with our business expansion plan. We wanted to include a premium whisky with an outstanding origin as part of our offering. Like Tanduay’s rums, its whiskies are made from the highest quality local ingredients from its country and is expertly blended and distilled,” said Kyle Tan, Executive Vice President of Tanduay.
A Tradition of Quality Scotch Whisky-Making
Scottish Legacy is a blend of the finest grain and malt whiskies from Scotland. It is created using a range of the highest quality Speyside and Highland malt whiskies blended together with the grain whisky from the the country’s Lowlands region.
Quality malt and barley, as well as the clear water drawn from the lochs and rivers in the hills around the brand’s distillery located in the Scottish Highlands, make up the raw ingredients of its whiskies. Like Tanduay, it follows a process that has been handed down from generation to generation. Its whisky-making know-how has been passed on to the Still Men to ensure that its quality remains consistent.
Its coopers also use traditional methods and tools to maintain, repair, and re-char the oak barrels used for the maturation process. From more than 50 species of oak growing in the world, only a few are deemed suitable to let the spirit breathe, allowing it to impart the flavors and colors required for the finest single malt.
The barrel-aging process for the whiskies takes three years. Only when the spirit has reached its highest quality will the Master Blender select the whiskies that will make up Scottish Legacy Blended Scotch Whisky.
Tasting Notes
Scottish Legacy Blended Scotch Whisky has a golden color with brilliant clarity. Its aroma is clean and crisp, with hints of vanilla. It is mellow on the taste with sweet richness and depth of flavor. It is clean on the palate with lingering sweetness.
“Scottish Legacy perfectly complements our present portfolio. While the market for whisky in the Philippines is still small compared to other spirit types, there are customers who are looking for sophisticated whiskies that are more affordable than what is currently available,” Tan said.
Scottish Legacy Blended Scotch Whisky will be available in April through shots.ph, the e-commerce site of Tanduay. It will also soon be found in stores nationwide.
