SURPRISINGLY LOVED BY DADS: FILIPINO FLAVORS WIN HEARTS ATMAX’S CORNER BAKERY

Gathering at Ruby Hall in Max’s Scout Tuazon for an intimate afternoon family gathering, Max’s Corner Bakery (MCB) officially unveiled its Father’s Day lineup.

Moving away from hyper-trendy gimmicks to honor the true anchor of the Filipino home, the brand is perfecting timeless heritage flavors with their signature “not-too-sweet” profile, giving families a meaningful reason to celebrate the man who has spent a lifetime quietly showing up for them.

Rooted in Quiet Devotion and Real Family Insights

The inspiration behind the campaign stems from a deeply relatable truth about Filipino fathers.

“Many dads express love quietly, not through words, but through showing up, providing, and bringing the family together,” said Jane Mendoza, Brand Marketing Specialist at Max’s Corner Bakery. “That insight shaped this campaign. It reminded us that Father’s Day is really about celebrating that steady presence and giving families a reason to gather around him.”

The overwhelming demand from dads for the Ube Creme Brulee Cake made it evident that this was a product worth celebrating.

“Even internally, one of the biggest surprises was how much dads themselves loved it,” Joshua Decena, Sr. Business Development Manager, shared. “One of our owners even shared it with around 20 to 30 friends at his polo club, and people started calling him asking where they could order it. That’s when we felt we had something that could genuinely become part of a Father’s Day celebration.”

Cracking the Ultimate ‘Dad-Test’ Palate

Fathers are famously “not dessert people,” often shying away from overly sugary treats. Max’s Corner Bakery intentionally structured its lineup to pass the ultimate, Filipino father-approved benchmark: hindi masyadong matamis.

“MCB’s product line is anchored on a ‘not-too-sweet’ flavor profile, a characteristic that shines brightest in our cake category,” explained Vince Catubig, Product Marketing Officer. “We believe our Father’s Day cakes are perfectly positioned to appeal to ‘non-dessert people’—including Dads—who appreciate a refined, balanced dessert.”

When asked how they managed to layer rich ingredients like ube, custard, and caramelized sugar without making it too sweet for dads, Catubig explained it simply:

“Real ube isn’t actually that sweet, it’s very mild and earthy,” he shared. “So when you match that with the bitter taste of the torched sugar on top, it cuts down the sweetness. It doesn’t take over the cake at all, it just helps you taste the real ube flavor.”

For the father who is difficult to read or simply claims he doesn’t want anything sweet, MCB introduces the Triple Treat Cake. Combining chocolate, mocha, and vanilla into a single, elegant dessert, it offers a sophisticatedprofile that treats his palate with respect.

“It’s the cake designed for the dad who doesn’t want anything sweet, but ended up liking it anyway,” Catubig noted.

Honoring Traditions Through Modern Creative Expression

While the ways Filipino families celebrate continue to shift across generations, Max’s Corner Bakery remains steadfast in its core values.

The team chose to focus on heritage favorites—Mocha, Chocolate, Vanilla, and Ube—because of the emotional connection they carry.

“Heritage flavors do something novelty items can’t—they trigger a deep sense of comfort and nostalgic familiarity,” Catubig emphasized. “It’s a dad-centric move that honors the flavors he already loves.”

To bridge tradition with the modern landscape, the brand is introducing customizable message cakes alongside digital-forward campaigns. This includes collaborating with Gen Z creators on TikTok to share these heartfeltfamily moments authentically with a younger audience.

“We believe family never goes out of style,” Decena noted. “While the way people celebrate continues to evolve, the desire to gather and create memories remains the same. That’s why we paired familiar flavors and traditions with things that feel more relevant today, from message cakes for practical family celebrations to digital spaces.”

Ultimately, every new introduction serves a singular goal.

“For us, creativity isn’t about being different from Max’s, it’s about finding new ways to express the same values,” Joshua Decena concluded. “We always start with the same question: how do we help Filipino families celebrate meaningful moments together?”

The signature Ube Creme Brulee Cake is priced at ₱525 for the 5-inch size and ₱950 for the 8-inch size; exclusively available for in-store purchase at the Max’s Restaurant nearest you.
