Okada Manila Spotlights Premium Korean Barbecue and Family Recipes at Goryeo

Smoke-free table grilling, house-made kimchi and Chef Hakjin Lee’s celebration dishes offer a taste of Korea for family gatherings and meals with friends

Chef de Cuisine Hakjin Lee leads the culinary team at Goryeo, bringing Korean traditions and an emphasis on fresh, quality ingredients to the restaurant’s menu.

Korean barbecue grilled at the table, kimchi made in-house and dishes inspired by family celebrations take the spotlight at Goryeo, Okada Manila’s Korean restaurant. Featured in the resort’s The World’s Best Flavors in One Destination campaign, Goryeo invites diners to gather over premium imported meats and traditional specialties prepared under Chef de Cuisine Hakjin Lee.

“Korean cuisine has a strong tradition of bringing people together around the table,” said Andreas Balla, Vice President of Food and Beverage at Okada Manila. “Goryeo celebrates that tradition through Korean barbecue and classic dishes, adding another compelling dining experience for our guests at Okada Manila.”

Korean barbecue made for sharing

At the heart of the experience is Korean barbecue, with premium imported meats grilled directly at the table using smoke-free grilling technology. Guests can enjoy freshly grilled meats alongside banchan, the small side dishes that bring variety to a Korean meal, including Goryeo’s house-made kimchi. Warm, fluffy gyeranjjim, or Korean steamed egg, adds a comforting accompaniment.

The shared table makes Goryeo a natural choice for a catch-up with friends or a family meal. For celebrations and more intimate gatherings, the restaurant offers three private dining rooms within interiors featuring art and fabrics inspired by Korea’s ancient dynasties.

Family memories behind the menu

Beyond the grill, Chef Hakjin’s menu offers a personal introduction to Korean cooking. Galbi-jjim, tender braised short ribs, and japchae, stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables, recall birthdays and special occasions when his mother or grandmother would prepare these dishes for the family.

His cooking begins with fresh, quality ingredients, allowing their natural texture, aroma and flavor to come through. Traditional recipes, balanced flavors and fermentation guide his approach, giving guests a way to explore Korean food beyond barbecue.

“The dishes I remember most from growing up in Korea are the ones my family gathered to share,” said Chef Hakjin Lee. “At Goryeo, I want guests to experience that same warmth, whether they come for Korean barbecue or discover celebration dishes such as galbi-jjim and japchae. I hope they leave with a new favorite dish and a reason to come back together.”
